At the end of last year, Davy Klaasen's dramatic rise to the cream of young Dutch football talent showcased itself in a spectacular way.
The teenager hit a superb hat-trick in Ajax's 4-0 win over NAC Breda, a game in which Arsenal were claimed to have had scouts in attendance. Perfect timing you could say.
Klaasen is an attacking midfielder who can also play up front, and there have been natural comparisons to Dennis Bergkamp.
He followed the performance up with another goal at the end of December, but in 2014 it has been a different story so far.
Having bagged seven goals in five starts up until the turn of the year, Klaasen's form dipped, was it the pressure beginning to build?
He went four starts without a single goal or assist, and only a yellow card to show for his efforts. But at the weekend he re-discovered his goalscoring touch.
Klaasen netted an important goal in a 1-1 away draw with surprise package PEC Zwolle, ensuring Ajax a five point lead at the top of the Eredivisie table.
"We are constantly working on a puzzle and every time you have it almost complete, it can fall apart, because a piece is snapped up.
"I'm going to the gate and lie in front of it when they come for Joel Veltman or Davy Klaassen.
"I love Ajax being attractive for a transfer, but these guys do not get out of here."
Central defender Joel Veltman has been linked to both Arsenal and Manchester United in recent days, and the club are determined clearly not to let either go, insisting they have the option to extend both their deals until 2014.
The video below illustrating Klaasen's skills, however suggests his talent may be worth Arsenal upsetting their former winger to try and pursue the wonderkid.
