The weekend’s Premier League action produced some surprising results as Liverpool completely destroyed Arsenal at Anfield while Norwich City and Fulham picked up points in matches they were expected to lose.
There were some standout midfield performances over the weekend with stars from higher and lower profile clubs featuring. We’ve taken a look at the best performers across several areas.
There were some great performances like Kevin Nolan for West Ham over the weekend but Chelsea’s Eden Hazard deserves a special mention. He bagged his first ever Premier League hat-trick and produced a world class performance which was too much for Newcastle to cope with.

This is an interesting one because as accurate as Michael Carrick and Mikel Arteta were, they played in sides that produced disappointing performances over the weekend.
In terms of duels against other players, no one won more than Chelsea’s Matic. He stopped Newcastle building fluency in Chelsea’s defensive third and the performance will do his confidence the world of good ahead of more important games.
Matic features again but it was Everton’s James McCarthy who won the most tackles over the weekend, in a losing cause as the Toffees went down 1-0 away at Tottenham Hotspur. McCarthy raced around the midfield, snapping at the heels of Tottenham’s more creative players.

The Crystal Palace pair showed that they are starting to read the game very well and they allowed the London based side to keep the pressure up on West Brom. There was no let up and it shows they were always actively thinking over how to win possession back quickly.
