Tottenham Hotspur morning news: Can Spurs finish above Arsenal? Yes says former boss

A round up of the latest Tottenham Hotspur news this morning.

Former Spurs manager Harry Redknapp says the club can finish above Arsenal this season.

Tottenham secured a vital win over the weekend while local rivals Arsenal fell to a heavy defeat away at Liverpool.

“I wouldn't write Tottenham off from finishing above Arsenal. It's still a possibility. They've got to go some, but it could still happen. Arsenal have still got to go to White Hart Lane,” Redknapp told TalkSport.

Head coach Tim Sherwood has paid tribute to Spurs legend Jermain Defoe.

Defoe has scored close to 150 goals during his time with Tottenham and is leaving to go and play Major League Soccer towards the end of this month.

“If he got 10 standing ovations it wouldn't be enough. He's been a legend at this club – if I was him I'd still be out there milking it,” Sherwood told the press.

Sherwood has also piled praise onto another Tottenham striker, revealing he hopes Emmanuel Adebayor continues playing well over the rest of the season.

The forward netted in the weekend win to maintain his good form since he returned to the side under Sherwood.

“I know he did well over a whole season for Arsenal in the past and I'm hoping he will do that here. It's all about how he is being managed. He is a good character. Every striker will have a sticky patch but I'm just delighted with him at the moment,” added Sherwood.
