Match to be played on Wednesday 12th February 2014 at 19:45. Venue: St. James' Park, Newcastle.
Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to build on an impressive result against Everton over the weekend as they travel to Newcastle United.
Spurs remain well in the hunt for a top four place this season and another three points in this game will put them a step closer to Liverpool.
Tim Sherwood has a strong squad of players available and here’s the team he could go with.
GK – Hugo Lloris
The Frenchman has been one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League this season. He’s always looking for ways to come and take the pressure off of his defence.
RB – Kyle Walker
Walker can use his pace to hurt Newcastle down his side of the pitch. Defensively he needs to tuck in and stay tight when the side is under pressure, keeping close to Michael Dawson.
CB – Michael Dawson
This is a big game for Dawson as the leader in that back four. Newcastle can be an intimidating place for any side to go to and his teammates will look to him if the match doesn’t start well.
CB – Jan Vertonghen
Vertonghen is looking sharper with every game he plays following injury. He’s a big, imposing central defender with the awareness to cover for Dawson but also for Danny Rose at left-back.
LB – Danny Rose
Rose’s pace on the left can make him a big threat on the counter but he needs to do his defensive job well and not leave too much space in behind.
RM – Aaron Lennon
Lennon also has a great deal of pace which he can use to his advantage in this game. It’s important he sticks out wide on the right, resisting any urge to drop in centrally.
CM – Paulinho
Paulinho is one of the best players Spurs have when it comes to someone who can control the tempo in the middle of the team. He’s also unafraid to get stuck in and break up the play.
CM – Nabil Bentaleb
Bentaleb has enjoyed a lot of game time under the guidance of Tim Sherwood who clearly sees something in him. His job will be to get on the ball and connect various parts of the midfield and attack.
CM – Mousa Dembele
Dembele’s pace and power will be important in this game. He can really make it difficult for any of Newcastle’s creative players to get on the ball or spend too much time in possession.
LM – Christian Eriksen
The Dane may start on the left but he won’t always stay there. He’ll drift inside when Rose is forward providing the width but he does have the skill to control the game out on the left wing.
ST – Emmanuel Adebayor
The striker has been in great form under Sherwood and he’ll be even more confident following a goal against Everton. This is another really good chance for him to score and dominate a game.
