Michael Owen predicts Arsenal to drop points against Manchester United in midweek.
Not a day goes by when former England international Michael Owen doesn't have a pop at Arsenal in some way, and the past 24 hours have been no different.
Fresh from criticising Mesut Ozil from his poor performance against Liverpool on Saturday, he has tipped the Gunners to drop more points against a down-on-their-luck Manchester United.
Both teams head into the game in must-win scenarios, with a share of the points little use to either side.
Yet that's exactly what Owen expects to happen, predicting Wednesday's match to finish a 2-2 draw, expecting former Arsenal man Robin van Persie to put a dent in the Gunners' title bid.
Writing on his BetVictor predictions blog, he wrote:
"The big games come thick and fast for Arsenal and I expect to see goals despite the fact that the Gunners have only conceded one in the last eleven games at the Emirates. I shall be at the match for BT Sport and, after their 5-1 thrashing at Anfield, this is a pivotal game for the Gunners’ title challenge with, whisper it, Robin van Persie back amongst the goals for United.
"The Dutch striker has scored in each of the last five meetings between the sides, twice for Arsenal but the last three for United including the only goal at Old Trafford in the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign.
"Michael’s prediction: 2-2 (15/1 with BetVictor)."
Owen's entitled to his prediction, and it's possible that despite United's poor form throughout 2014 they will up their game at The Emirates; a stadium at which they have an impressive record in recent seasons.
Even their win at Old Trafford was particularly against the run of form, and Van Persie has netted each time he has faced Arsenal for United.
Both sides need a reaction after the weekend, and with Arsenal again missing the duo of Mathieu Flamini and Aaron Ramsey through injury it is bound to make for an open game.
