The former Chelsea playmaker has stressed that boyhood friend David De Gea played a part in his switch to Old Trafford.
The addition of the Spanish attacking midfielder was seen as quite the transfer coup, with the diminutive playmaker eyed as the player to solve United’s lack of creativity going forward.
Although Mata is still to hit his best form at Manchester, the Old Trafford faithful have been excited by the ex-Valencia man’s signing.
Mata has stated that when making the decision to move to Manchester, team-mate David De Gea was a major reason in the switch.
“David was very important for me coming here,” the Spaniard told MUTV.
“The first week he was with me, almost all the time he was calling me to check if I was okay and asking what I needed.
“I have known him since we were kids and I’m very happy to be here with him.”
