With Leighton Baines signing a new contract at Everton and Fabio Coentrao prevented in making a loan move away from Real Madrid, Manchester United need to find new left-back targets.
An advance for Southampton’s Luke Shaw has been touted in the British press, but it believed that the Premier League champions had a significant offer for another left-back refused during the January transfer window.
Spanish daily newspaper AS are today claiming that the Old Trafford outfit were keen to add Atletico Madrid’s Filipe Luis to their ranks during mid-season.
The report claims that David Moyes’ side made a £17 million bid for the Brazilian full-back, but that the title-chasing Spaniards refused this.
The versatile defender has been one of the unsung heroes in Atletico’s rise to prominence over the last couple of seasons and is adjudged as one of the best attacking full-backs in Spain.
He has played over 100 La Liga games for the Vicente Calderon outfit since moving to the Spanish capital in 2010 from Deportivo La Coruna and has been capped four times by Brazil.
It is clear that United are keeping an eye on Atletico, with midfielder Koke and striker Diego Costa also linked with the Old Trafford outfit in recent times.
