Left-back Dennis Aogo, who was being touted as a potential Anfield addition in January, will move permanently to Gelsenkirchen.
Liverpool finished the January transfer window without any additions of note, but it has not stopped them continuing their impressive form in the search for Champions League qualification.
Brendan Rodgers is building a squad capable of mixing it with the best in England, a case proven by the 5-1 dismantling of Arsenal at the weekend.
However, one position that there remain doubts over is at left-back, where Jose Enrique has been plagued by injury and inconsistency, while loan star Aly Cissokho is still to win over the Anfield crowd.
One man that was being linked with a move to Merseyside in January to strengthen the Reds at left-back was Dennis Aogo.
The 12-times capped Germany international’s contract at Hamburg was set to expire in 2015, with the defender farmed out to Schalke in the summer on loan.
It was believed that Liverpool could have added Aogo to their squad at a reasonable price, but that opportunity has now passed.
Schalke general manager Horst Heldt has confirmed that Aogo will move to Gelsenkirchen permanently, with a deal in place that is only lacking the final touches.
"The details are clarified between all involved parties, it only lacks the signatures,” the Schalke supremo told the club’s official website.
It is believed that Aogo will move to Schalke on a three-year deal.
