Manchester City are believed to have made a transfer deadline day double bid for Porto duo Eliaquim Mangala and Fernando, but the Etihad Stadium outfit were unable to conclude any potential deal in time.
With Fernando out of contract in the summer, it is believed that a host of sides are scrambling for the talented midfielder’s services.
It looked decidedly likely that the enforcer was set to leave the Estadio do Dragao, but Fernando may well have had a U-turn.
Portuguese newspaper O Jogo is today claiming that the midfielder has put pen-to-paper on a new contract.
It is believed that Fernando’s new deal will keep him with the Portuguese champions until 2017, with the 26-year-old having a €30m release clause written into the extension.
