Tottenham morning news: ‘Sherwood willing to step aside and learn from Van Gaal’ claims report

A select round-up of news relating to Tottenham Hotspur

Goal reports that Tottenham Hotspur are planning fresh talks with Louis van Gaal about the prospect of taking the reins at White Hart Lane.

The report claims Daniel Levy has already met with the Holland coach, with Van Gaal allegedly turning down the chance to do both jobs simultaneously.

While Tim Sherwood is currently in charge at Spurs, the report claims he would be willing to step aside and remain at the club to work alongside the Dutchman if he was given a suitable role.

Only time will tell if this story has legs…but there is little doubt Van Gaal’s considerable experience and managerial nous could assist Spurs as they attempt to compete with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.

In other news, Michael Dawson has told the Express that he and his teammates are up for the fight in the race for a top four finish.

Tottenham may have been put to the sword by both Manchester City and Liverpool recently, but Dawson said, “As players we take responsibility.

Everyone’s got pride and when you get beat like that it’s not good for confidence. But the lads have put in some good performances since then.”

He will be hoping for another one against Everton this afternoon, and the Toffees midfielder James McCarthy has revealed that he could have joined Spurs last year, before his former manager showed just how much he wanted him at Goodison Park.

Speaking to the Independent, the former Wigan man said, “The gaffer (Roberto Martinez) was a big factor. He rang my agent and said he wanted to get a deal done. My agent was speaking to different clubs but once I heard that, there was no going back.”
