A report in England today is suggesting that the Santiago Bernabeu side have been monitoring the Belgian goalkeeper for a number of seasons.
Despite the star-studded nature of the Blues squad, a number of loan stars will be vying for a place in the first team next season.
One of the most promising is Thibaut Courtois, who is in his third consecutive loan spell at Atletico Madrid.
Mourinho looks set to have to make a choice in the summer, with either Petr Cech or the young Belgian given the gloves for the 2014-15 campaign.
There are plenty of suitors monitoring the former Genk stopper, with the latest side to be mentioned Real Madrid.
The Sunday Mirror indicate that the Santiago Bernabeu outfit have been keeping tabs on Courtois’ progress at cross-town rivals Atletico for a number of seasons – something that was an instruction by Jose Mourinho when he was in charge of the Spanish giants.
Ironically this instruction could well see Madrid move for the Chelsea goalkeeper in the summer should an agreement to bring him back to Stamford Bridge not be made.
Initially it looked like Barcelona would be in the running for the Belgian’s signature, but Chelsea may have to contend with the other side of the El Clasico divide in keeping Courtois.
