It was a deal that probably slipped you by on Transfer Deadline Day - but as Chelsea snapped up Kurt Zouma and loaned him back to Saint-Etienne they did the exact same with one of Croatia’s hottest young talents in the form of Hajduk Split star Mario Pasalic.
The midfielder, similar to Michael Ballack in playing style, signed a deal for a fee of €2 million and was then loaned back to Hajduk Split for the rest of the season.
The 18-year-old said of the deal - which was thrashed out with technical director Michael Emenalo:
“I'm glad everything is successfully completed, it is now back to training and the next six months I have to concentrate solely on Hajduk. Nothing else I can say.”
This deal will be concluded on the 1st July and last night he showed just why Chelsea are keen to sign him.
With his side in trouble in the Split derby vs RNK he turned out to be the hero for the side.
Hajduk were 1-0 down with eight minutes left to play and RNK were looking like pulling off a shock over their more illustrious neighbours.
But Pasalic popped up in the box with two scrappy, but important goals, to take the win and bragging rights in his city.
Here are the goals from the game…
