Chelsea, Arsenal and City scouting Eredivisie defender - report

Ajax’s Joel Veltman is in the gaze of a number of Premier League clubs according to reports in the British press.

With the January transfer window closed, the attention for Premier League scouts will be sourcing potential new signings for the summer.

A report in The Sunday Mirror today has suggested that Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City are all keeping tabs on highly rated Ajax defender Joel Veltman.

The story states that all three of the Premier League giants had scouts present at Ajax’s clash with Groningen in midweek.

The Eredivisie champions are eager to keep hold of the 22-year, with former Arsenal winger and now Ajax director claiming that they will do all they can to keep the prospect in Amsterdam.

“I will fight to keep Veltman. We don’t want him to go. He is a massive talent and players have been leaving this club too early in their careers,” Overmars stated.

“Veltman is a sensation. We never expected him to make such an amazing breakthrough at top level. But that’s down to the work of Jaap Stam.

“Joel gets defensive lessons from the biggest of all defenders. Jaap has been working on him really hard with individual coaching at Ajax.’’

Veltman has impressed for Ajax this season, starting 13 league matches.

He has been a feature at Dutch age-grade levels, most recently the under-20’s. He also made his Netherlands senior debut against Colombia in a friendly back in November.
