In the midst of the Luis Suarez transfer saga, other players linked with a summer switch to Arsenal made do with considerably less column-inches.
One such man was Dimitri Payet, who had enjoyed an impressive campaign the previous season with Lille, scoring 13 goals and providing an amazing 23 assists.
And with that season over, Arsenal were joined by Newcastle United and Marseille in reports linking the 26-year-old with a move.
In the end, he moved to the latter for a fee reportedly in the region of €10million.
The winger-cum-forward began his Marseille career in brilliant form, netting three times in his first two Ligue 1 matches. But his form then dipped considerably, until now, with a goal against Toulouse followed by a brace on Saturday against Bastia.
In fact soon after Arsenal traipsed off the Anfield pitch following their 5-1 defeat, Payet took to his and duly put in a very impressive performance, scoring twice from two shots on target, playing one key pass and enjoying a pass-completion rate of 91%.
So while Arsenal have a lot of questions to answer following their Anfield embarrassment, one player they were linked with last summer is basking in the after-glow of a job very well done.
