€25m Cole replacement target speaks on Chelsea rumours - 'I'm here, that's important'

Ricardo Rodriguez of VfL Wolfsburg gave a short answer to the Chelsea rumours yesterday evening.

This season has seen a changing of the guard in the left-back position for Chelsea FC - as stalwart Ashley Cole has seen his baton passed to a usual right back Cesar Azpilicueta.

The Spanish international has been superb in his unusual position - and has helped Chelsea to the top of the Premier League table.

But Jose Mourinho is still said to be highlighting more natural left-back options - with plenty of names mentioned.

Southampton star Luke Shaw seems to be the big favourite with many a pundit and fan seemingly tipping the young English star to take the helm from his senior countryman.

But another player who has been linked with the club is VfL Wolfsburg’s in-form defender Ricardo Rodriguez.

The Swiss international has been one of the top performing players in the Bundesliga this season - and at just 21-years-old is considered as one of the top full-back talents on the planet.

The Blues were said to be eyeing up a potential €25 million move for the player in the summer - and at one point it was even suggested he could be involved in some part of the Kevin De Bruyne deal.

And now he has been asked directly about a potential move to London.

Yesterday he was on target for the club - sliding home a penalty just before the hour mark against Mainz at the Volkswagen Arena.

And after the 3-0 home victory he was asked by reporters what he thought of the Chelsea interest.

Now he did not mess around with his answer - giving the reporter short shrift:

"I'm here, that's important.”

That is neither a yes nor a no - but more of a ‘stop asking me’ about Chelsea.
