Tottenham morning news: ‘He can be our new Bale’ says Sherwood

A select round-up of news relating to Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood believes Andros Townsend can become the club’s new Gareth Bale, following the England winger’s return from injury.

In quotes published by the Express, the Spurs boss said, “Andros can do something different. He can go past people, turn a bad performance into a fantastic result like Gareth Bale did last year.”

The 22-year-old is back in the squad for the match against Everton following a hamstring injury, and despite his electric pace and ability to turn a game, Sherwood still feels there are areas Townsend can improve.

He would like to add more goals to his game. I have known him since he was a baby and he has gradually got better, so he is going in the right direction,” Sherwood added.

In other news, the Daily Mail reports that Michael Laudrup paid the price at Swansea City after snubbing loan deals for a number of players, including Tottenham’s Lewis Holtby and Nacer Chadli.

The report claims Laudrup was not enthusiastic about bringing in the players on a temporary basis – something that is said to have played a part in the former Danish international's dismissal.
