Reports last month claimed Arsenal were lining up a surprise swoop for AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli.
Those rumours came to nothing, but the Metro has since picked up on claims from Tuttosport that Arsene Wenger is monitoring the Italian striker with the possibility of a summer transfer still on the cards.
Given the striker’s history, and Arsene Wenger’s record in the transfer market, it would be something of a leftfield move. But Sir Alex Ferguson was accused of similar when he brought Eric Cantona to Old Trafford, and look what happened there.
That said, for Balotelli to get anywhere near the mercurial Frenchman, he will need to focus on his football, and make the most of the time available to him. And that is something his former manager at Manchester City, Roberto Mancini, has been speaking about in an interview with Sky Sport Italia.
As reported by A Bola, Mancini is quoted as saying, “Balotelli has everything, but is losing time. He has all the qualities to be one of the best…that, everyone knows.
He then compared the AC Milan striker to former Brazil international Adriano.
“It still seems like yesterday that Adriano started playing and what followed eventually went wrong,” Mancini reportedly said. “At the time they also said they were young and had time. Now, it is not there anymore and time waits for no one.”
In this case, only time will tell if Balotelli succumbs to it or embraces it.
