Ex Gunner: 'Outstanding' Chelsea will slay 'shocking' Newcastle 3-0!

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson tips Chelsea to capitalise on their confidence from beating Manchester City to inflict defeat onto Newcastle United.

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has lauded Chelsea's performance against Manchester City, claiming the playing staff's confidence will be flying high, leading them perfectly into Saturday afternoon match-up against Newcastle United, who were 'shocking' versus Sunderland.

In the reverse fixture in November, Newcastle beat Chelsea 2-0 at St James' Park, however, former Arsenal favourite Merson cannot foresee past a 3-0 win for Jose Mourinho's Blues.

'I thought Newcastle's season was picking up, but they had a shocking result against Sunderland, they've lost Yohan Cabaye and Cheick Tiote is out for a while,' commented Merson, highlighting how Magpies manager Alan Pardew must be lamenting a considerably weakened midfield after the sale of Cabaye to Paris Saint Germain and 27-year-old Ivorian Tiote's suffering of a hamstring injury.

Newcastle's plight is in contrast to the form of the Stamford Bridge who, courtesy of Mourinho tactics, engineered a well thought out and well-deserved win over Premier League title favourites Manchester City on Monday evening.

'Chelsea will be flying after what they did at Manchester City on Monday night and I think this will be walk in the park for them. They were outstanding at the Etihad, as good as it gets, and Nemanja Matic looks top-drawer. He hardly gave Yaya Toure a kick.'
