A round up of the latest news from the Chelsea youth ranks and younger stars.
Chelsea remain linked with a move for FC Schalke teenager Max Meyer. The 18-year-old is thought to be available for around €25.5 million but he may not settle for a spell in Chelsea’s under-21 side having grown used to regular first team football in the Bundesliga.
Chelsea have also been linked with a move for 16-year-old Marseille star Maxime Lopez with the French side fearing they won’t be able to hang onto the teenager.
“If a foreign club offers €20,000 per month to a 16-year-old kid plus a stake to the parents, what can you do?” a source close to Marseille told La Provence.
Under-21 assistant manager Andy Myers has spoke of a chaotic and disruptive build up to the youth team’s clash against West London rivals Fulham later today. Fulham currently sit top of the under-21 Premier League.
“It was disappointing that we didn't get a chance to play again sooner after the defeat to Arsenal but obviously the weather hasn't helped. We've been fortunate in that the West Brom game was our first match postponed,” he told the Chelsea website.
Versatile Chelsea youngster Nathan Ake has been assigned first team squad number 27 for the rest of the season. Ake has been a consistent performer for Chelsea’s youth teams this season and may get a chance to feature under Jose Mourinho before the end of the campaign.
