Southampton team news and predicted line-up v Stoke

Southampton take on Stoke City at St. Mary's Stadium this Saturday in a 15:00 kick-off in the Premier League. Here's the low-down ahead of the game.

Southampton hope to overtake 8th placed Newcastle United in week 25 of the Premier League season.

Whilst the Saints host 11th placed Stoke City, Newcastle travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea.

There is now just a two point gap between Mauricio Pochettino's Saints and Alan Pardew's Magpies, after Southampton's emphatic victory over Fulham and Newcastle's humiliating defeat at the hands of arch rivals Sunderland.

The two sides could switch positions, provided that Southampton win their fixture and Newcastle fail to defeat title-chasing Chelsea.

Southampton are without young striker Sam Gallagher, who has been excused from training and other club duties due to the death of his father last Saturday.

Other concerns focus on Calum Chambers and Victor Wanyama. Nineteen year old Chambers came off against Fulham after suffering a dead leg, whilst Victor Wanyama was replaced at half-time. Pochettino claims that Wanyama had received a heavy knock and he decided it was best to substitute the Kenyan.

Wanyama has been training all week, but Chambers only returned to the training pitch on Thursday. As such, Nathaniel Clyne is expected to start against the Potters on Saturday.

Dejan Lovren and Gastón Ramírez are ahead of their recovery schedules as they returned from ankle ligament injuries obtained in Southampton's 2-2 draw away to Sunderland last month, but this game comes too soon for the pair.

PREDICTED LINE-UP: Boruc; Clyne, Fonte, Yoshida, Shaw; Cork, Schneiderlin; S. Davis, Lallana, Rodriguez; Lambert.
