There's been some bad news in Arsenal and Tottenham's pursuit of a Marseille star.
Marseille interim coach Jose Anigo hasn’t had some very encouraging words for Arsenal and Tottenham fans.
The Stade Velodrome chief has spoken out about versatile 21-year-old midfielder confirming that the player isn’t looking to leave the club.
“He features in our project for two to three years. He doesn’t plan on leaving at all,” Anigo told reporters.
Arsenal have a long term interest in Thauvin linked with making a move for the Frenchman last autumn, reportedly lining up an assault to land him last month.
Tottenham have also been strongly linked with a move for the Marseille star and are reported to have attempted a deal at the end of the last transfer window, which didn’t come off.
Marseille are not in a position where they need to consider doing a deal because Thauvin’s contract doesn’t expire until 2018, releasing that pressure unless the player says he wants to leave which is unlikely.
“If that wasn’t the case, we would have sold him already and achieved a great profit,” added Anigo.
It’s a blow for Arsenal and Spurs because the central and wide midfielder is a very talented player.
However, both clubs remain linked with other midfield targets with Paris Saint-Germain’s Adrien Rabiot a good example of another talent the North London sides are keen to lure to the Premier League.
Arsenal and Tottenham are both well stocked in midfield and both sides will move on.
