Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa has been watched very carefully over the past six months - as he stepped into the void left by Radamel Falcao with consummate ease.
He has banged in 20 goals in 22 La Liga appearances this campaign - and showed just why Liverpool were so keen to snap him up at the start of the season.
They didn’t get him - as Los Colchoneros signed him up to a more long-term deal which also increased his release clause to £32 million.
But they never thought teams would be looking at that price and considering it a bargain.
But that is now the situation - as his form sees him in the sights of many a big club, including two Premier League sides being heavily linked.
Chelsea need striking reinforcements - with Samuel Eto’o out of contract at the end of season and Demba Ba and Fernando Torres not exactly inspiring confidence.
Arsenal meanwhile have just Olivier Giroud with the support of Nicklas Bendtner in their attack, although Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski can cover in that position.
So Costa would be a perfect signing for both sides - and that £32 million doesn’t sound like too bad a deal for the Spanish-Brazilian forward.
But just like last summer his current club are looking into securing his future.
"We told him three times that we will renew his contract and if necessary we will do it again…especially if he continues to develop at this level."
And with Atletico in the title race in Spain - and outsiders for the Champions League crown - you could easily see him staying once again.
