Wenger confirms Arsenal injury boost - Impact for Liverpool clash

Arsene Wenger has given fitness updates and his thoughts ahead of the game with Liverpool this weekend.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed an injury boost for the Gunners ahead of their weekend clash against Liverpool.

Arsenal face the daunting prospect of travelling to Anfield, where Manchester United have lost this season, but Wenger confirmed that Mikel Arteta will be available with Jack Wilshere possibly available for selection.

“We might have Wilshere back for Liverpool, Arteta will be alright,” said the Frenchman at his pre-match press conference.

Arteta took a knock in last weekend’s win over Crystal Palace while Wilshere has been suffering from an all too familiar ankle problem.

Wenger has said the most important tactic Arsenal can use during the mega clash is to be able to control possession, starving Liverpool’s star partnership of Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez of the ball.

“We need to dominate the game in order to keep Suarez and Sturridge quiet. We must control possession. Saturday is a good moment for us to win a big game because we have a big month ahead - I think Liverpool are strong offensively with Sturridge, Suarez, Coutinho, Sterling and Gerrard,” he added.

Wenger was also pressed on Arsenal’s lack of transfer activity last week, with the boss coming in for a lot of criticism for not signing a back up to current striker Olivier Giroud.

The Frenchman confirms he’s perfectly happy with Giroud and isn’t surprised he’s bagged ten goals and six assists already this season.

“We never wanted to replace Giroud and I'm not surprised he is doing well this season,” said Wenger.
