Fiorentina striker Mario Gomez has returned to training since September and marked the occasion by attempting a bicycle kick.

Fiorentina will be delighted to see Mario Gomez back in action having lost their star striker Giuseppe Rossi to a long-term knee injury.

German international Gomez joined Fiorentina from Bayern Munich in July 2013 but has only made three appearances for the club, scoring twice.

The 28-year-old suffered a serious knee injury last September and has been undergoing rehabilitation since.

Gomez rejoined his teammates in training and immediately thrust himself back into action, attempting an audacious bicycle kick in one of the Viola's training games.

"A great feeling to be back on the training field with my teammates,” Gomez enthused on his official Facebook page.

“The atmosphere wasn't positive for the Udinese defeat. But, I am convinced that we will win the second leg and we will go through to the Coppa Italia final. A thousand thanks for your support."

Fiorentina are fourth in Serie A and trail third-placed Napoli by three points as they prepare to take on Atalanta this weekend.

The returning marksman will need some more time to get back in the rhythm of things, but it is suggested that Gomez could feature at home to Inter on February 15.
