Match to be played on Saturday 8th February 2014 at 15:00. Venue: Stamford Bridge, London.
Chelsea will be full of confidence as they head into their home game against Newcastle United this weekend.
Jose Mourinho’s men gave a superb account of themselves earlier this week to condemn Manchester City to their first home league defeat of the Premier League season.
Here’s the side Mourinho could go with.
GK – Petr Cech
Cech is one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the Premier League and there’s virtually no chance that he’ll lose his place.
RB – Branislav Ivanovic
The right-back scored a bullet of a goal to get the better of City and he’ll be looking to carry that momentum forward into this game.
CB – Gary Cahill
Cahill had a great game against City, as they looked to drift onto him and to pull him out of position. He’ll be crucial if Newcastle try to hit Chelsea in the air or over the top.
CB – John Terry
The experienced defender should take his place in the heart of the back four. He should be determined to show the Blues why he deserves a new, bumper one-year deal at the end of the season.
LB – Cesar Azpilicueta
Left? Right? It doesn’t matter to this guy where he plays along the Chelsea back four. He’ll make it very difficult for Newcastle’s wide men to get into the game.
RM – Willian
Willian has really grown into Premier League football and he looks comfortable in the Chelsea midfield. He’ll offer good control on the ball and intelligent attacking play.
DM – Nemanja Matic
Matic has a great game against City and it’s important for Mourinho to help him try and keep that momentum.
CM – Frank Lampard
Don’t be surprised to see Lampard come back into the heart of the Chelsea midfield. This is the sort of game he can really dominate and he’ll allow others to rest.
AM – Oscar
Oscar will play in behind the main centre forward. Chelsea will be looking to get him onto the ball as quickly as possible because he’s got that ability to unlock the opposition in a matter of seconds.
LM – Eden Hazard
Hazard was voted by our readers as January’s player of the month. He should be determined to carry on his good form, proving why he’s now being considered in that world class bracket.
ST – Samuel Eto’o
Pictures have shown Fernando Torres returning to first team training but this match may be a bit too soon. It’s another chance for Eto’o to prove that the number nine slot is his.
