Rivals Liverpool have paid tribute to those who lost their lives on the saddest day in the history of Manchester United.

'More important than football rivalry' - The classy statement from Liverpool says a lot and should mean a lot to fans of Manchester United.

Today is February 6, marking the anniversary of the 1958 Munich Air Disaster, which claimed the lives of 23 on board, including eight Manchester United players.

The tragedy is a sombre day for all affected with the Red Devils, but the message of support from their at times bitter rivals should not go unnoticed.

The two teams have endured many a heated moment over the years, but the intention of both clubs to set this aside in moments of respect is great to see.

United played their part in a Hillsborough tribute at Anfield in September 2012, to mark the lives of the 96 Liverpool fans who lost their lives in the 1989 stadium disaster.
