Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was categoric in his assessment of Eden Hazard as the best young player in the world earlier this week, but will Manchester United's latest sensation one day catch him up?
The early signs regarding Adnan Januzaj, 19, are promising. The teenager is already a regular in the first team and has won countless plaudits, even compared to Cristiano Ronaldo, just like Hazard has been.
The 23-year-old Chelsea star is predictably one of the best players in the Premier League statistically, largely coming out favourably against Arsenal's Mesut Ozil.
So while it would be unkind to the Manchester United prospect to compare every facet of his game where he falls short with the more established Chelsea man, it is at least interesting to note the one impressive area of his game where he is already out-performing the much-lauded London based talent.
It is his precision passing and through balls which are more prevalent and accurate than Hazard which sees him come out on top.
|Player||Team||Pos||Accurate Through Ball||% of Accurate through balls||Apps||Mins|
|Adnan Januzaj||Man Utd||MF||5||83.33||17||1,053|
Hazard however can boast that in areas such as goalscoring, assists, and key passes, he outranks the player who could yet become his international teammate.
|Player||Team||Goals||Goal Assist||Key Passes||Apps||Mins|
|Adnan Januzaj||Man Utd||3||2||19||17||1,053|
This season was all about breakthrough for Adnan Januzaj, and just the fact he is out there playing is huge progress. Even Cristiano Ronaldo netted just six goals in his debut season for the Red Devils, four years later he bagged 42.
Just the fact that Januzaj is performing at a level that he can boast that in one dangerous aspect of his game, providing through balls to United's attackers, he can say he outranks Hazard is a sure sign of how far he has come.
