Could Qatar make bumper offer for Benitez?

Rafa Benitez 02

There are sensational reports in Italy that Napoli boss Rafa Benitez could be headhunted to lead Qatar at the 2022 World Cup.

Qatar's national football team will come under a lot of scrutiny at the 2022 World Cup and there are claims that Rafa Benitez is the subject of a massive offer to coach the team.

Although they are ranked 101st in the world and have never qualified for a World Cup competition, Qatar are hosting football's showpiece event in 2022.

A vast amount of money is being pumped into the Qatar national side in order to allow them to give a good account of themselves in eight years' time.

And according to the latest reports from Sportmediaset, the Qatar Football Association is preparing an extremely lucrative offer to Napoli boss Benitez to persuade him to lead Al-Annabi at the event.

It is suggested that the deal could begin as soon as at the end of the current season and would make Benitez amongst the best paid coaches in the world.

Sportmediaset quotes a figure of around £8.2m per year and claims that if Benitez were to be tempted, Napoli chief Aurelio De Laurentiis would line up ex-AC Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri as his replacement.

Benitez has always stressed his long-term commitment to the Napoli project and seems to have the faith of everyone at the club, but he could be tempted by his first national team job and a vast salary.
