Arsenal morning news: £80m summer spree, Suarez on fixture as Gibbs seeks 'big statement'

All the news and gossip from The Emirates Stadium this morning.

It is being reported this morning in The Mail that Arsene Wenger is preparing an £80 million spending spree in the summer.

The Gunners are said to be interested in three top players for the summer market - Lukasz Piszczek, Lars Bender and Jackson Martinez.

Piszczek’s arrival from Borussia Dortmund would be as a replacement for Bacary Sagna should he decide to leave the club in the summer when his contract expires.

Bender would provide a long term solution to the holding midfield position - with Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini both approaching the advent of their respective careers.

As for Martinez of Porto - he would provide the strength in depth up front that Arsenal have clearly been missing this season.

Arsenal’s actions in the summer market seem to be a running theme today - as it is also suggested that Wenger is also keeping an eye on Diego Costa, Edin Dzeko and Mario Mandzukic.

Luis Suarez, who was of course a major transfer target for the Gunners this summer, has been speaking about their upcoming fixture.

The two face off on Saturday in the early morning kick-off - and the Uruguayan says:

“Arsenal are the leaders in the table and victory would be good for morale, give the whole squad an enormous injection and reduce the points difference at the top. We didn’t have success at the Emirates so our objective now is to win and I believe we have that chance.”

Kieran Gibbs has other ideas though. He wants to show the Premier League what they are all about this weekend…

“I think it would make a big statement if we won there - just like it did when we played Liverpool at home…Everyone enjoys the big games and this is just another big game to show what we can go and do.”
