Versatile Brazilian commits himself to the West London cause after playing a crucial role in victory over Manchester City.
In the build-up to the winter transfer window, 26-year-old defender/defensive-midfielder David Luiz had been speculatively linked with a Chelsea exit, to Barcelona in a £29m bid courtesy of a Daily Star report and, according to the Daily Mirror, potentially bound to Manchester United as David Moyes looked to 'turn the tables' on Jose Mourinho after the Portuguese's pursuit of Wayne Rooney.
However, Luiz remains a significant player for Chelsea regardless of the preferred centre back partnership of Gary Cahill and John Terry and the central midfield recruitment of Nemanja Matic to compliment Ramires. Thus far this season, Mourinho has deployed Luiz in marquee match-ups including Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and, most recently, versus Manchester City, where he excelled.
'It was a difficult game against a strong team,' reflected Luiz when speaking to the club's official website. 'Both teams created a lot of opportunities, Man City have scored many goals in their last few games but we stopped them and it was good for us.'
Luiz then added that he is not fussed over what position he plays, providing he gets on the field and, despite the rumours he would leave Stamford Bridge, reaffirmed his desire to remain a true Blue.
'I love to play for Chelsea, I love to play football, it doesn't matter if I play in midfield or defence. I'm just lucky to play for a big club and it's nice when you can play with very good players like Matic.'
