On this day: Holtby 'living the dream'; Lukaku says he can be Chelsea legend

Romelu Lukaku for Chelsea

On the 5th February 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Fulham.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 5th February 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 5th February 2013…

Living the dream

Tottenham had only recently signed German midfielder Lewis Holtby from Schalke 04 - but he seemed to love it at the club.

He joined the club six months earlier than expected after Sandro picked up a season ending injury.

And he said of his first couple of weeks or so at the club:

“I have been living my dream for the past few days. I am playing at an absolute top club in the Premier League. The day the transfer went through, I left for London with just a small suitcase and a few hours later, I was already on the Tottenham training ground, getting the traditional kick up the backside from my new team mates by means of welcoming me. That’s the way things are here in London – hard but hearty.”

However a year on, and he is no longer with the Spurs boys at the moment.

He was loaned out to Fulham on Transfer Deadline day - although Tim Sherwood has admitted his Spurs career is not over just yet.

Legend Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku was talking about his future plans - insisting he could become a legend at Stamford Bridge.

"Yeah, that is the dream. That's what I signed for Chelsea for. My aim is to play at the Bridge and to be a legend over there in the future. But the time is going so really I need to keep playing. And hopefully in the next few years become one of the key elements at the Bridge.”

He was on loan at West Brom at the time - and was widely expected to be given first-team opportunities at The Bridge this season.

Instead he was loaned out again, this time to Everton … where he has once again outperformed the current crop of Chelsea strikers.
