Chelsea morning news: New deals for Chelsea defenders? Neither are John Terry

A round up of the latest news stories about Chelsea this morning.

Gary Cahill and Cesar Azpilicueta are in line for pay rises as speculation over John Terry’s future rolls on.

Both defenders have been two of Chelsea’s most consistent players so far this season.

Reports suggest Cahill will be bumped up to around £100,000 per week while Azpilicueta’s contract will be improved considerably, with him earning less than some of the youngsters currently on loan from the club.

On loan Chelsea star Patrick Van Aanholt scored an own goal as Vitesse Arnhem lost to AZ Alkmaar in the Eredivisie.

Vitesse, who have several Chelsea players on loan until the end of the season, lost the game 2-0.

Van Aanholt put through his own net while trying to clear a cross.

Nemanja Matic has piled the praise onto Jose Mourinho after the 1-0 win at Manchester City earlier this week.

Chelsea’s January signing has revealed Mourinho’s intense preparation in the build up to the game.

“We prepared very good, the coach showed us some videos of Manchester City and of course they were the right videos to show the quality but also where they make mistake. We cannot say what we prepared because it is only for us, but the preparation was very good and a big quality,” he told the press.
