Capcom's classic Strider returns with a next gen outing

Strider

Capcom's classic Strider is back for more futuristic side scrolling fun on a multitude of systems.

Capcom have today announced that the classic character, Strider Hiryu, will return with a brand new title in development by Double Helix Games that promises to be true to its roots and will be an intense side-scrolling action platform game.

Strider’s action begins in the expansive metropolis of Kazakh City, a mix of ornate Russian architecture and hard-edged futuristic high-rise buildings with sprawling energy cables and pipework set in an alternate Earth setting.

Players can freely explore the city and surrounding centres, gain new abilities and items which in turn open access to a what is promised to be a massive and expansive interconnected game world.

Capcom have stated that the game will remain true to its roots and will feature the same franchise hallmarks of fluid, lightning quick combat and ground-breaking free-flowing traversal that they say has inspired many of today’s third person action titles.

Strider has of course evolved since its arcade and Sega Megadrive outings in the late 80's and early 90's respectively and the new game will endow the player with a vastly expanded arsenal of moves and weapons to acquire and use, while slicing their way through a massive, interconnected and rich game world.  This is going to be a digital multi-system release so will be on XBox One, PS4, PS3, XBox 360 and PC and Capcom states that it will be out in the early part of 2014
