Several national newspapers have suggested AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli is back on Arsenal’s radar but there’s one issue, which may stop Arsene Wenger from going after him.
The Italian is one of the most controversial figures in football; you either love his antics or hate them, but that’s not the side of him, which could put Wenger off from spending big cash to land him this summer.
The real problem is his discipline and despite the fact he’s only received one red card with Milan compared to the four he picked up for Manchester City, his accumulation of yellow cards is alarming.
Since he joined Milan last season, he’s picked up 15 yellow cards in 29 appearances, which means he’s getting booked nearly every other game for Milan on average.
He could do very well in an Arsenal side, which has the midfield talent to be able to lay chances on a plate for the Italian but one of the themes with Wenger’s current side is reliability.
Wenger is under big pressure to sign another striker this summer to play with and ahead of Olivier Giroud and whoever that may be, he needs that player to stay fit and be regularly available.
It’s amazing that Balotelli seems to have dodged a bullet on so many occasions when he’s picked up a booking because he has the ability to pick up a second yellow card in no time at all.
Does that show that he’s learned when to calm down or does it show a little bit of luck?
There are plenty of other attacking candidates who will be discussed and suggested as Arsenal targets over the rest of the season but the arrival of Balotelli may create more problems than solutions for the Premier League title contenders.
