The much maligned director of football quit his post after seven months at the club – with the Toon Army delighted by the news.
Newcastle fans got some much-needed good news after their dismal 3-0 home defeat to local rivals Sunderland at the weekend – as director of football Joe Kinnear resigned from his post.
The former Wimbledon manager was not a popular appointment amongst the St James’ Park faithful, with Kinnear embarrassing himself in his early days at the club.
He came across as arrogant, while also pronouncing Newcastle players’ names incorrectly.
Meanwhile, Kinnear stressed that he should be judged on his signings, and that he could pick up the phone and call any manager in world football.
After an ill-fated spell at the club, taking in two transfer windows, Newcastle have not signed a player permanently and also lost arguably their best player, Yohan Cabaye, to Paris Saint-Germain.
It is fair to say that the Newcastle fans won’t be losing any sleep over Kinnear’s decision to step down.
