A select round-up of news relating to Manchester United…
Manchester United have been linked with William Carvalho for even longer than they were either Thiago Alcantara or Cesc Fabregas. And now Sport Witness is reporting that the Sporting Lisbon midfielder is David Moyes' number one summer transfer target.
The report stems from newspaper O Jogo, which reportedly runs a front page story declaring that United have been so impressed with the player they will move for him at the end of the current campaign.
It is no surprise really, given that their scouting missions to watch Sporting matches have now reportedly reached double figures since September. The only concern for United fans is that they will be left as disappointed as they were in their failed pursuits of the Spanish pair; although Carvalho does seem a more realistic – if potentially more expensive – alternative.
In other news, Moyes has insisted he has not frozen Rio Ferdinand out of the side, despite the former England international only playing one league match since the end of September.
Ferdinand has featured a number of times in cup competitions and now looks set for a return to league matters after the double injury blow to Jonny Evans and Phil Jones.
In quotes published by the Mirror, Moyes said, “Rio is back training. He’s back and we will continue to use Rio at the right times and the right moments.”
