Fans of the Stamford Bridge side delighted in their tactical triumph over Manchester City but say Mourinho's barking for discounting them from title race.
Yet last night's result has wider ramifications than just closing the gap at the head of the division as, in 45 minutes, according to industry professionals, Mourinho destroyed a seemingly invincible aura that Manuel Pellegrini and City took a whole season to create.
Chelsea demonstrated that City are beatable, that they can be contained, even dominated in midfield and so a potential fear factor may have been eliminated for future opponents of a side who have oft slayed teams by six-goal margins.
Chelsea's supporters have credited Mourinho for the victory, lauding his tactical acumen, his ability to get the best out of players such as John Terry and Gary Cahill, to make Eden Hazard realise his potential and for signing Nemanja Matic, who excelled in a three-man midfield.
Still buzzing about yesterday's match. Brilliant tactics by Mourinho. #CFC— Andrew Francis (@AndrewCMFrancis) February 4, 2014
