Michael Laudrup's sacking while surprising has not come entirely from nowhere.
There had been rumours regarding the Dane's position at Swansea City being shaky just last month, despite it being less than a year after leading the Swans to a trophy and into Europe.
Inevitably the rumours will begin as to where Laudrup may land up next; he was even touted as a potential Real Madrid boss last summer.
A side who have been linked with him in the past is Tottenham Hotspur, who currently have Tim Sherwood as Head Coach on an 18-month contract.
However even he admitted his position would be at risk should Spurs fail to finish in the top four, and with Laudrup now unemployed, is it inconceivable the Tottenham board could replace him with the now former Swansea boss at the end of the season?
This was a talking point we saw coming a fortnight ago when rumours of Laudrup being dismissed appeared on the back pages of the national papers, running a poll on HITC Sport asking Spurs fans who they would prefer to see in charge.
The results were overwhelmingly in favour of Tim Sherwood and are as follows:
Tim Sherwood: 73 per cent
Michael Laudrup: 16 per cent
None of the above: 11 per cent
Clearly Sherwood is very much in favour, and if he can secure a top four finish surely the job will undoubtedly be his. Whether he will do remains an open-ended question.
