Following Wilfried Zaha’s impressive performance against Norwich City, former Manchester United striker and current Cardiff City boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer heaped praise on the forward.
The Ivory Coast-born forward joined the Bluebirds on loan from Manchester United on deadline day following a belligerent start to his Manchester United career.
The 21-year-old started Saturday’s Premier League fixture on the substitute’s bench. However, following an injury to Peter Whittingham late on in the first-half, Wilfried Zaha made his debut to a standing ovation.
With Cardiff City 1-0 down at the break, a Zaha-influenced second period turned the game on its head – resulting in a much-needed victory for the relegation-threatened Premier League newcomers.
In his time on the pitch, Zaha completed 92% of his passes, turned the ball over three times, made two key passes and assisted Craig Bellamy’s equalising goal – much to the delight of his new fans.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer paid tribute to the Manchester United loanee – saying that Zaha has all the ingredients to match current Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo:
“He is one of the best I have seen with the ball.”
“He has quick feet and is brave like Cristiano and wants to go forward.”
“But he has got to make a decision about how good does he want to be and how much does he love this game. He can grow up to become a proper player like Ronaldo if he wants.”
“It’s a desire and attitude from within. It’s what you’ve got in your heart and Cristiano’s always had it.”
Solskjaer added on Zaha’s influence: “He came on and made an impact, he lifted everyone and just wants to play football.”
“That’s something he will get loads of here. I’m really looking forward to working with him.”
