According to football’s renowned statistical website Whoscored.com Jack Wilshere and Luis Suarez were two of the Premier League's best players for January.
The duo joined Real Madrid pair Cristiano Ronaldo and former Spurs star Luka Modric as well as the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexis Sanchez as Europe’s top performers.
Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere had a fantastic month for the Gunners – picking up an assist in all three of his Premier League fixtures.
The England international’s performance against Aston Villa was particularly impressive – netting the first goal before setting up Olivier Giroud for the second.
Unfortunately for the 22-year-old, he later picked up a knock and missed Arsenal’s game at Southampton. His exclusion was evident as Arsenal struggled – managing just a draw which momentarily knocked the Gunners off top spot.
The other Premier League addition was Liverpool’s dynamic striker Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan has been phenomenal all season – and January was no different.
The Premier League top goalscorer continued his fine goalscoring run by netting four times – including a double away at Stoke City during an enthralling 5-3 victory. Impressively, the 27-year-old scored four goals from just 16 shots – a remarkable 25% conversion rate.
Suarez’s top performance was his dazzling display away at Stoke City. The coveted striker took 67 touches, made two key passes, completed four successful dribbles, had three shots on goal and scored twice – earning him a perfect 10 rating by whoscored.com.
Arsenal almost had another addition. However, Spanish international Santi Cazorla was just pipped by Barcelona’s Alexis Sanchez for that other midfield spot. The former Malaga star was ranked as Europe’s 13th best player for January after netting three times for the Gunners and picking up a MOTM award.
