All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…
Manchester City face Chelsea tonight in a match that will go a long way to deciding the outcome of this season’s title race – regardless of how much either manager wishes to downplay it.
In early team news, City are definitely without Sergio Aguero, who will be side-lined for a month with a hamstring injury.
Samir Nasri and Javi Garcia are also unavailable due to injury while the Blues are without long-term absentee Fernando Torres.
In the build-up to the match, Sky Sports has run an interesting editorial on City’s preparation for the match – which stresses that nothing is left to chance, even down to the smallest and seemingly most irrelevant detail.
Both managers have had plenty to say prior to tonight’s encounter, and the Guardian has published an interview with Jose Mourinho in which he states that his side can no longer compete with Manuel Pellegrini’s men financially.
“So there are things that are impossible for us,” Mourinho said in conversation about financial fair play. “Financially, no (we can’t compete)”
But can they compete on the pitch? They will be hoping to prove they can this evening, while City will be hoping it is yet another Etihad demolition job.
Mourinho was also asked about his reported interest in a player who was tipped to move to the Etihad last month, and has already been linked with a summer switch following transfer deadline-day.
Asked if Chelsea would sign Eliaquim Mangala, Mourinho said, "We can't. We signed Zouma, who is even younger and a comparable figure."
