Leeds fans could rebel against Cellino takeover

Leeds United supporters could pass a motion formally objecting to Massimo Cellino's takeover, according to the latest reports.

A large number of Leeds United fans feel that Massimo Cellino isn't the right man to lead the club and could make their voices heard.

Cellino appears to have agreed a deal to buy a controlling share of 75 percent of the club from GFH Capital but the Football Association is still to give him the green light for the transaction.

This stage is usually a formality, but the FA are delving deeper, possibly due to Cellino having a conviction for fraud.

Cellino, who is famed for his hands-on approach to running a football club, has already ostracised many fans by telling manager Brian McDermott, via a lawyer, that he had been sacked before he even had any power to do so.

The fans backed McDermott and he appears to still be in charge but was allegedly furious when Cellino asked for ex-Middlesbrough man and fellow Cagliari native Gianluca Festa to sit in the dugout with him for the game against Ipswich last week.

According to the Telegraph, Leeds fans are ready to make their voices heard in a bid to prevent Cellino's takeover being allowed.

"The fans are not happy with the way they have gone about things and they are not happy with the way Brian McDermott has been treated as manager,” Gary Cooper, chairman of the Leeds United Supporters Trust told the Telegraph.

"It’s not my place to say whether they are fit to buy the club, that is up to the Football League, but I think most people would prefer one of the other consortiums to take over.”

The Leeds United Supporters Trust is now weighing up whether to formally pass a motion against the takeover.

Passing the motion may not have any effect on Cellino's ambitions and is unlikely to influence the FA, but it would be a sure statement of the Leeds fans' mindset.
