Some of the latest news from Tottenham Hotspur this Monday evening.
Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has said that teams will need a high points towards the top of the Premier League to fill the top four positions, and has said that Spurs are in with a chance of making the Champions League places this season.
Spurs are currently three points behind Liverpool, with Everton in between them – but Tottenham’s goal difference is vastly inferior to Liverpool’s who currently occupy the fourth spot with 14 games remaining.
Lloris told Canal Football Club: ‘This season teams will need a very high number of points for those positions, but it remains possible for us.
‘We are in a difficult situation with our goal difference, but we will fight until the end.
‘It doesn’t change our ambition, even if it is a bit more difficult for a team in competition for a top-four finish.’
Gylfi Sigurdsson has said the Spurs side can cope with the demands of Europa League football and advance further than the quarter-final stages they reached last season as well as challenge for Champions League football.
Aside from writing off the chances of Arsenal and Chelsea’s Premier League title hopes, Sigurdsson is quoted in the Evening Standard saying: ‘It was a big disappointment to go out to Basle last year and, hopefully, we can go a bit further this season. The squad are even stronger now than this time last year and the new players are starting to settle in.
‘By the end of February, we’ll have a better idea of who will be at the top and who will be competing for fourth place.
‘We need to make sure we go on another run and hopefully that will ensure we’re in the top four at the end of the season.’
Midfielder Paulinho is confident the side can overcome top four rivals Everton when the two sides meet at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
Paulinho is quoted on the official website, saying: ‘We now have an important game against Everton. We know we have to try and win that match at home. At Hull, we just got one point but we are confident we can win next weekend.’
