The father of the talented Belgian goalkeeper has stated that his son must be first choice at Stamford Bridge next season.

At the end of the season Jose Mourinho will have some significant decisions to make regarding his player base, with a host of talented players out on loan this term and vying to be brought into the first-team fold in west London.

Thibaut Courtois has been dazzling onlookers with top performances over the last two-and-a-half years on loan at Atletico Madrid, with the Belgium star unsure over where his future lies.

The goalkeeper’s father has been vocal in a recent interview with Belgian news agency RTBF, stating his son will not settle for second place at Chelsea.

"For now, we expect to discuss with Chelsea,” Thierry Courtois stated. “It is true that they have good goalkeeper in Cech, so cohabitation with both is not possible.

“Alternating between the two is possible on paper but this is not what we want. This is not a situation we want.

“It is impossible for Courtois to join a club to be their number two, and the conclusion is the same for Petr Cech."

Courtois senior also said that the talented stopper was very happy at Atletico Madrid.

"Every week he dazzles us. He produces big performances and his team continues to amaze and produce good results, in part thanks to him. This is a big success. it goes beyond our expectations,” the proud dad stated.

“He is very happy. He does not bother about tomorrow, and plays it game by game and works every day to improve. He is happy to be appreciated by his teammates and the staff.”
