Player ratings: City slickers contained by Chelsea, Yaya wonderful, but overan…

Yaya Toure

Chelsea defeated Manchester City by a 1-0 scoreline at the Etihad Stadium on February 3 with a Jose Mourinho tactical masterclass…

Joe Hart - 6.5

Questionable distribution saw him find a team-mate a mere 4 times from 18 passes, however, he did return two saves and two catches, but with one ultimately crucial concession.

Aleksandar Kolarov - 6

His crossing was good and mirrored that of his fellow full back Zabaleta. Had an attacking opportunity late in the match but was a: too tame in his approach/run up for the incoming ball then b: lashed at it and lost his composure.

Matija Nastasic - 6

Perhaps fortunate to remain on the field after bringing down Chelsea substitute Oscar, who had a clear goal-scoring chance when the Blues were 1-0 ahead and looking to close the show.

Vincent Kompany - 7.5

Boshed Samuel Eto'o early to tell him who's boss. Was an imposing figure in the heart of defence, clearing the ball with his bonce as Chelsea fired in crosses from wide.

Pablo Zabaleta - 6.5

A so-so performance but he managed five tackles, three interceptions and three clearances.

David Silva - 7.5

Strong positional sense throughout the first half. When it came to chance creating, creativity and possession retention, Silva was once again on point. Some superb shooting opportunities but Silva did the difficult really well (long-range drives over a wall of defenders) and failed with the seemingly easy (missing from eight yards).

Yaya Toure - 8

Attempted a beautiful cross-pitch one-two with Kolarov where the Ivorian swept a ball out wide into the path of his left-back, who ran the ball on prior to crossing the ball into the danger zone but Yaya's long legs just failed to get the vital touch that would push the ball into the net. Toure was fundamental to City's success in the first half and unleashed the shot of the stanza 30 minutes into the game, with a curving, dipping effort, but the ball ended up the wrong side of the crossbar. Moments later the rambunctious midfielder was gliding through the penalty box and taking on Blues like they were training cones before assisting a David Silva shot which was techniqued just wide of the post. He started the game fantastically but the more the match wore on, the more Nemanja Matic grabbed the match by the scruff of the neck.

Martin Demichelis - 5

Completely anonymous in the first half.

Jesus Navas - 7

One of his greatest attributes for Sevilla in Spain's Primera Division was his touchline hugging roaming, something Premier League fans were a witness to against Chelsea.

Alvaro Negredo - 6

His passing accuracy remained strong up front with 89% of his passes meeting a team-mate, however, he was ineffectual in front of goal and failed to hit the target resulting in his early substitution.

Eden Dzeko - 5

Attempted five shots - all were off-target. Completed 63% of his passes.
