United ‘close in’ on world-record deal; RvP linked with summer Arsenal return

A select round-up of news relating to Manchester United

The Sunday Express reports that Manchester United are closing in on a world-record £700million deal with kit suppliers Nike.

If successful, the deal could bring the club £70million a year – not bad for an additional transfer kitty!

With Nike’s current deal with the Premier League champions ending in 2015, the report states that the sportswear manufacturer is keen to continue its relationship with the club.

Those close to the deal are reporting it could be a 10-year contract, and that the amount would dwarf that currently received by Real Madrid from Adidas.

So there is the potential good news, but how about this for a story?

The Mail on Sunday claims Robin van Persie could be on his way back to Arsenal next summer.

The report claims he is not happy with the departures of Sir Alex Ferguson and Rene Meulensteen – something he did not foresee when he arrived from the Gunners 18 months ago.

The report also suggests that if David Moyes is successful in persuading Wayne Rooney to agree a new long-term contract at Old Trafford, the move is far more likely.

This one should be taken with a whole handful of salt. It couldn’t really happen…could it?
