Johan Djourou’s Hamburg SV slip to yet another heavy loss in the Bundesliga.
Arsenal loanee Johan Djourou struggled, as HSV fell to their fifth straight league defeat Saturday.
The Swiss international centre back, who joined Arsenal in 2004, is currently into his second loan spell in Germany.
In the 2013 January transfer window Djourou moved to Hannover on a six-month deal, with an option to buy. Following his return to the Gunners at the end of that season, however, the 27-year-old decided to team up with former Chelsea star Michael Mancienne at Hamburg SV for a season-long loan.
The season hasn’t gone according to plan for Djourou’s new side, though. Hamburg SV currently lie in the relegation playoff spot in 16th place - with 11 losses in 19 Bundesliga games. The defence has been a major problem all season – with the goals against tally reaching a Bundesliga high at this stage of 44.
On a personal level, Djourou has started 12 Bundesliga matches for the club. However, the Arsenal loanee has struggled to make an impression – making as many fouls as he has tackles - and being the only Hamburg player to score an own goal this term.
Following Hamburg’s 3-0 defeat at Hoffenheim - their fifth on the trot, the - North German club set an unprecedented record of four straight defeats, with three goals conceded in each game.
First on the list was an unsurprising 3-1 away defeat to Bayern Munich, then an entertaining 3-2 home loss to Maine, followed by a 3-0 rout by Schalke 04, and then Saturday's embarrassing setback to Hoffenheim.
Does Johan Djourou still have a future at Arsenal ?
