Roberto Soldado failed to hit the target once again yesterday? When will he get his first goal of 2014?
Tottenham Hotspur were held to a draw against Hull City yesterday and one player who again failed to impress Tottenham fans was Roberto Soldado.
Soldado arrived in the summer for £27 million from Valencia - and brought with him a fierce reputation as a goalscoring supremo.
He bagged 30 goals in 46 games for Los Che last season - and that made up part of an impressive 81 goals in 141 games for the club.
So he was expected to have a similar effect at White Hart Lane.
Unfortunately, that has not been the case.
Soldado has struggled to adapt to the Premier League - his record of 10 goals in 24 games this season certainly doesn’t look bad on paper, but he has scored just one Premier League goal since the end of October.
That goal against Stoke City has not been the catalyst for change however - no goals yet in 2014 and yesterday saw his boss give him a vote of confidence.
“It’s just a matter of time before Robbie hits the target again and he starts scoring and gets on a run. I thought he was all right today. He had a few opportunities, a few volleys which sometimes fly in and sometimes don’t. I’m not pushing any pressure on him and he’s not putting any pressure on himself.
“We’ve all been pro footballers and we know (what) it’s like. It doesn’t just happen. You’ve got to keep training hard and working hard. I’m sure it’s not the first barren spell he’s had.”
He had four shots yesterday and flew his legs at many other chances - he just seems a player devoid of confidence at the moment and a shadow of the player who scored for fun in Spain last season.
Many a Spurs fan will continue backing the player for the rest of the season - but for many they are beginning to finally lose their patience with the Spaniard.
Here is some of the reaction from Twitter ...
Why is everyone still baking Soldado saying he's gunna come good?! It's a bit late now were over half way through the season and the guys 28— DanTheYid (@daniel_thfc) February 2, 2014
I actually think Soldado could be our worse signing ..... EVER— The Lillywhites (@COYSCOYSCOYS86) February 2, 2014
I've defended Soldado all season, blaming his poor form on confidence, but yesterday he looked disinterested. Awful.— Glasgow RK Spurs (@GlasgowRKSpurs) February 2, 2014
I truly believe if Soldado stays for a second season he'll become a legend. He just needs one of them goals strikers get without thinking.— Guy Brinkley (@GSPCECOYS) February 2, 2014
Soldado - His confidence couldn't be lower. I don't really know what you do about that, he's getting chances but not even looking likely.— Addicted to Spurs (@AddictedtoSpurs) February 1, 2014
Soldado you are poor.— Callum (@callum_haymes) February 1, 2014
Soldado - yeah got it. Goals are missing, obviously. But all the other things he is doing... remarkable. He really tries. I like that.— Spurs Austria (@THFCAustria) February 2, 2014
How we gonna get top 4 With only kane as backup striker? Soldado cant hit forward..just hitting to sides..and Adebayor might lose form soon— Coys1979 (@Coys1979) February 2, 2014
