On this day: Spurs star prefers musicals and Villa wants Arsenal move

On the 2nd February 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 2nd February 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 2nd February 2013…

Les Miserables

Must be something about playing at Tottenham - because after Benoit Assou-Ekotto came yet another player admitting that in his spare-time, football just was not his thing.

On this occasion it was Mousa Dembele - who admitted that he knew very little about new signing Lewis Holtby - and went on to admit:

“I am very happy we signed Lewis Holtby, but to be honest I don’t know a lot about football. I don’t watch too much football at home, I only watch the Premier League.”

He also admitted his love - for musicals:

“Outside football, I like to go to musicals or the theatre. My favourite one is the Jersey Boys. I’ve been a few times, three times. I like everything about it, I just love it. I know the famous songs, there are about six I really like. My Eyes Adored You, I like that one. I don’t play the CD in the dressing room, though!”

Villa wants Arsenal

It was being reported that David Villa wanted a move to Arsenal in the summer.

The Gunners failed to bring him in on loan at the end of the transfer window - as Barcelona wanted him for the rest of the season.

But Villa had reportedly set his heart on becoming a Gooney - and was devastated for it not too come to fruition.

A £14 million switch was mooted - but he signed for Atletico Madrid for just €5.1 million in the summer of 2013 after Neymar was snapped up.

Moussa do more

It was Moussa Sissoko’s St James Park debut - and he ran rampant against Chelsea in a 3-2 win for Newcastle United.

He scored twice in an epic encounter and looked a star in the making.

He has gone on to be an inconsistent soul on the North East - and some performances like this could be welcome with Cabaye gone.
