Manchester City latest: Pre-match thoughts and Barca’s ‘unanimous’ choice

All the news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad this weekend…

There may still be over 24 hours before Manchester City and Chelsea meet in what could be a vital match in terms of the Premier League title race, but both managers have wasted no time having their say.

Jose Mourinho has claimed City could and perhaps should have won more trophies since Sheikh Mansour’s 2008 takeover.

In quotes published by the BBC, the Chelsea boss said of City, “The team is fantastic, the squad is fantastic and normally they (should) win more titles.”

A sly dig or a simple statement of feeling? Who knows, but you can be sure Manuel Pellegrini’s men will be hoping to get one over on the “special one” tomorrow evening.

And the Chilean has also had his say, insisting that the upcoming match will not be a title-decider.

It won’t be,” Pellegrini said in quotes published by the Guardian. “Apart from the fact that Arsenal, Liverpool and Everton are still in the running there will be 42 points to play for after the Chelsea game. Anything can still happen.”

It certainly can…but three points tomorrow evening could go a long way to ensuring who ultimately takes the crown.

In other news, the Sunday People reports that David Silva is being eyed by Barcelona as a replacement for Xavi.

The report claims the Spanish champions have compiled a list of potential replacements for the Spanish maestro and Silva is the “unanimous” choice.

Given that City have no need and (surely) no desire to sell, that could be one transfer that proves beyond Barca.
